What I loved was how much she wanted from me in terms of what I was looking for. The inspiration, the purpose of the music, and I appreciated that from a creative standpoint. And she is very communicative and responds in a timely manner and will take your feedback and apply it to make the project the best it can be to your satisfaction”
- Raymon Cruz - Boom! The Musical
"Nela is a smart composer. Not only is she good at what she does, she also is amazing at taking direction. She understood what I needed and the changes I wanted. Very thankful to have worked with her!"
- Cyrus Wu, Filmmaker
About

Nela Ruiz is a film, TV, and animation composer based in Argentina, working with independent filmmakers across the world to build the emotional foundation of their stories.
Her scores are driven by feeling first - she tends to think about what a scene needs emotionally before anything else, and that instinct for narrative is what directors tend to notice most about working with her. Her range moves from intimate and orchestral to unconventional and modern, always in service of the story.
Her work has traveled far. Films like "Dokita Musa" (Dances With Films, LA), "Three Ladies and a Fake ID" (Austin Film Festival), and "I Will Not Take Care of You" - which reached over 60 international festivals and is now on Apple TV - reflect her range across drama, documentary, and character-driven narratives. In animation, "Kopakonan" won at the Sweden Film Awards and "Darwin the Dreamer" took home honors at the Touchstone Independent Film Festival.
In video games, she brings a sense of play. Her soundtracks for "Fiction Paradox", "Mind the Clown", and "Capibara vs Humanity" are built on the same emotional intelligence she applies to film, but with a lightness that makes them fun to inhabit, not just hear.
Nela started with the guitar, moved into composition, and built her craft through sound technology, music production, and years of work in advertising - collaborating with brands like Spitfire, LABS+, Marvel, and Mitsubishi along the way. That foundation gave her something a lot of composers value: the ability to work fast, take direction well, and deliver music that serves the project rather than the composer's ego.
If you're making something you care about, she probably wants to hear about it.
